I’ve just completed the design of the new OzGirl site (http://ozgirl.tv), the old social network which as littered with spam has now been officially shut down. The new site will now serve as an information source documenting the show’s run and conclusion.

Make a Film. Make a Difference.

Exciting news today! The script I wrote for MAFMAD (Make a Film, Make a Difference) sponsored by TAC has been selected as one of the 8 finalists. Apparently there were over 600 entries this year. Anyway I think it’s a really great program, the films they’ve produced over the past few years have been of a fantastic quality, all of them in my opinion really effective. Each film is supposed to be designed to discourage drunk and reckless driving. I actually wrote 3 scripts for the competition, and the last one I wrote (a comedy in the vein of a Wes Anderson film) was literally sent in half an hour before the deadline as a last minute “why the hell not” sorta thing! Anyway I’m thrilled to get to this stage, and it all happens pretty quick apparently, this Wednesday I have a meeting with the judges and from there I’ll have a week to retool the script and resubmit it. They will then proceed to pick 2 winners and each winner will have a $20k budget to produce their film as well as a $5k prize! So it’s an awesome opportunity! Fingers crossed!

Transmission – Wrapped and in Post!

Finally! My most ambitious film yet, “Transmission” is wrapped. We shot over an intense 2 and a half days, and I could not have done the film without my amazing crew! Jacqui Hocking (1st AD) and Shyam Ediriweera (DP). The film looks absolutely incredible thanks to Shyam and the VCA’s new RED ONEs and RED primes. I’m really happy with the film and can’t wait to get it finished to show you all! Currently there are a load of VFX shots that need to be completed. Become a fan on Facebook! Streamy Nominations!

This morning the Streamy Award nominations were announced live! OzGirl scored 3 nominations – Best Foreign Series, Best Drama Series and Sophie Tilson for Best Female Actor in a Dramatic Web Series. I speak on behalf of the cast and crew when I say we are thrilled and honoured to be nominated!! That we have been recognized by our peers (the good folks that form the International Academy of Web Television) is a true honour – or as you Americans would spell it – honor.

To be amongst some really awesome shows (if you haven’t, you MUST check out Zach Galifianakis’ show ‘Between Two Ferns’ – he was the re-tard in The Hangover – http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/d14fdef4f2/between-two-ferns-with-zach-galifianakis?rel=by_user&rel_pos=2) is, well – awesome!

So I’d like to thank not only the Academy but everyone involved in the production as well as everyone watched it over this past year. It’s been a fun ride and the Streamys is a great way to conclude the OzGirl chapter! I look forward to (hopefully) walking the red carpet with you all in Los Angeles in April!

Congratulations, also, to all the other nominees! May the best series win!

In Production – “Matchbreaker”

So I’m trying to update this blog as much as I can but I’m terribly bad at it! It’s a habit which requires such discipline, discipline which I clearly lack. We wrapped shooting on Matchbreaker, the pilot I co-created with Lucas Crandles and Tim Nash (Dark Heart Productions – http://darkheartproductions.com) and directed, last month in late Jan. We’re heavily into post-production at the moment, with the offline edit locked off. VFX, music, grading, mixing and ADR fun to come! We’re hoping to get the entire pilot complete by mid-March, about 3 weeks over our initial deadline (we were clearly ambitious in our scheduling).

I’m very pleased with the outcome and we’ve been getting a great response from the small amount of people we’ve tested the pilot on. We were shooting 15 hour days, over the course of 3 days, with a cast of 12, a lot of location changes – it was a hectic shoot and we managed to pull it off with some very nice production value! We shot on the infamous RED camera, I think we shot about 32 shots a day, most of them on a dolly or jib arm (I liked to make things complicated). It was certainly a logistical challenge.

Now that we’re in post-production, we’ve a couple more challenges, namely figuring out the RED post-production workflow. So fingers crossed that we’ll complete the pilot soon and we will have a premiere screening shortly! For now, I’ll leave you with some nice set pictures, courtesy of Alysa. A very late call to the IAWTV – Streamy Awards!

OK I know that everyone has run their ‘For Your Consideration’ campaigns already and seeing as how the nominations are to be announced on Monday, this serves as a very, very late call to the International Academy of Web Television voters – but better late than never! Since January I’ve been in production and post production on a new 15 minute pilot, entitled Matchbreaker starring Sophie from OzGirl, so I’ve had little time to campaign! A little bit about OzGirl (http://ozgirl.tv), the series which will hopefully be up for nomination – we shot and released 23 episodes (105 minutes) last year on a measly $7 000. Most of the cast and crew were students (I myself was in 2nd year university) and almost all of us certainly had day jobs. It was a colossal challenge to produce the show, balancing all of our responsibilities, and a Streamy nomination would be a great bit of recognition for our efforts. I know it would mean the world to me and the cast and crew who worked tirelessly on this project if we were to be nominated (especially from half way across the world!). Below I’ve put a selection of clips and episodes which I feel represent the best of each individual’s contributions. New Project!

And new blog! For anyone who follows any of my blog posts you’ll know that this website has been up and down, but I’ve launched it again with the idea that I will simply post updates on myself and various projects.

First up is I’m scrambling to organise a shoot for next week – all I can say at the moment is that it’s a pilot romantic comedy written by the talented guys at Dark Heart Productions (http://darkheartproductions.com) – Crandles and Nash. I will be directing and producing and it also stars Sophie Tilson of OzGirl.

We’ll be shooting over three days next week if things go as planned – which let’s face it, they never do! That’s all for now, I’m sure there will be another update with more info soon.

The OzGirl team has just returned from an incredibly successful trip to Los Angeles, attending the Independent Television Festival (http://itvfest.org). OzGirl won Best Web Series and Best Acting during the award ceremony last Thursday night.

We’ve had a crazy time in LA these past 10 days. We’d like to thank everyone for their support over this past year. It’s been a lot of fun. During this trip we’ve had the opportunity to meet with a multitude of people including agents, studios and networks. It’s been an amazing journey and we couldn’t have done it without you: the fans.
